Sonequa Martin-Green is in negotiation to join LeBron James in Warner Bros.’ “Space Jam 2,” sources tell Variety.

Terence Nance, creator of the HBO show “Random Acts of Flyness,” is directing the untitled sequel, with “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler producing with James and his partner Maverick Carter (through their SpringHill Entertainment banner).

Sources say Martin-Green will play James’ wife in the pic, which hits theaters on July 16, 2021.

In the original, Michael Jordan teamed up with Looney Tunes characters to battle a group of animated aliens on the court. That pic went on to gross $230 million worldwide and besides Jordan, featured some of the NBA’s biggest stars, like Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Patrick Ewing. The new film

“Birthday,” a drama examining the after effects of the Sewol ferry sinking in Korea, has been set as the opening film of the Far East Film Festival in Udine. The screening represents the film’s international premiere. It follows shortly after its much anticipated commercial release in its home market on April 3, almost exactly five years after the tragedy that killed 300 passengers, mostly school children.

The disaster had myriad repercussions from the top to the bottom of Korean society. There have been several documentaries on the subject.

“Birthday” depicts the private “anatomy of pain” of a fictional middle-class family ripped apart by the loss of their son. The parents no longer know how to communicate with each other, but must still try to bring up their surviving younger daughter.

Calling the film “an uncompromising narrative,” the festival says: “Suffering speaks the language of petit-bourgeois everyday life, of normality without normality

Stephen Butchard on ‘Baghdad Central,’ Its Family Core, and a Modern Hero

The first scene of Channel 4’s upcoming “Baghdad Central,” created and written by Stephen Butchard and lead-directed by Alice Troughton, captures, with a jolt, the hectic hubbub of an ordinary street scene in Baghdad: One man fixes a container, banging it rhythmically as if it were a drum; there’s the table of street conversation, a car tooting, people throwing a dice, a woman selling fruit.

Produced by Fremantle’s Euston Films and sold by Fremantle, “Baghdad Central” surprises in other ways. Apart from a brief prelude, it unspools from November 2003, when Baghdad has fallen to Coalition forces, but

          TV Review: ‘The Twilight Zone’

          TV Review: ‘The Twilight Zone’
TV has been trying to recapture the magic of “The Twilight Zone” for decades. Since it went off the air for the first time in 1964, the CBS anthology series that merged horror with humanity has been revived twice — in the 1980s and in the early 2000s. Lately, the series’ formula, pasting genre tropes over a rigorous and somewhat didactic moral position, has been adapted by “Black Mirror,” the Netflix series whose vision of a technology-addled near future is pessimistic enough to make the late Rod Serling, the show creator whose grimly ironic presence opened and closed “Twilight Zone” episodes, seem practically sunny.
